China and Asia Travel Service would like to wish all of our friends and clients a happy Moon Festival as people in China and several other Asian countries prepare to celebrate from 30th September to 7th October 2012.
Otherwise known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Moon Festival is a very important harvest festival celebrated in China, across Asia, and in Chinese communities worldwide.
It is customary to present beautifully packaged moon cakes as gifts to family and friends in the days leading up to the national holiday festival. These small pastries are traditionally filled with a red bean or lotus seed filling with an egg yolk center. Some contemporary versions of this popular gift may contain chocolate, fruit, or even cheesecake fillings.
The Moon Festival is not all about these delectable pastries however. It is also a time for families to come together and share a meal. On the actual night of the festival – which is based on the lunar calendar and coincides with the autumnal equinox when the moon is at its fullest and brightest – family and friends gather to admire the bright harvest moon.
This year, the Moon Festival falls on Sunday September 30, one day before Golden Week – the seven-day holiday week that witnesses mass migration as workers nationwide return to their home towns.
